BeaugencyBeaugency kept its medieval character, with a beautiful keep-tower of the XIth century which dominates the town with its 36 m heigh, and some remains of its walls. There are several Romance constructions, among its the abbey church Notre-Dame of the XIIth century. Beaugency welcomed an important council in 1152, which was full of consequence for France and England. Indeed, its object was to officialize the cancellation of the marriage between Alienor of Aquitaine and the king Louis VII. The heiress of the duke of Aquitaine married then with the prince Henri Plantagenêt, the future king of England, to whom it brought in dowry the south-west of France. |
