Tournus

Tournus was a Roman garrison built at the edge of the Saone river, it became an important religious center thanks to the influence of the abbey Saint-Philibert. It is a chef-d'oeuvre of Romanesque art. Saint-Philibert abbey of Tournus.

Abbaye Saint-Philibert de Tournus

From the end of the Xth century, the abbey Saint-Philibert, with its very high nave, is one of the largest Romance monuments of France. Its frontage is impressed by Romance inspirations qualified wrongly as "Lombard". The mosaics of the chorus are from the XIIth century.
